Intro
In October 2006 the entrepreneurial team of Nick Kesaris and Spiro Kouvlis opened the doors to their forth restaurant venture UBurger. Located at 636 Beacon Street in the heart of Kenmore square UBurger is hamburger themed, up-scale fast food experience. Located directly across the street from the local McDonalds, UBurger places its emphasis on a higher quality of ingredients to give it the edge in the highly competitive food environment, "Our goal," said Kesaris, "is to give people fresh, fast burgers and fries ". Once inside customers will notice the steel panels lining the walls, the plasma TV and the chalk board menu; seating is available for up to 40 people inside and 20 outside, weather permitting. In addition to hamburgers, UBurger also offers hot dogs, fries, onion rings, milk shakes and healthier alternatives such as grilled chicken sandwiches and salads. All items are cooked to order and available with any combination of six different toppings and sauces ranging from grilled peppers to chipotle sauce. The atmosphere is bright, friendly and clean. With this emphasize on quality and atmosphere UBurger has been able to charge a premium ranging from 15-25 % over other fast food restaurants on comparable items.
Year over year growth within the fast food segment; where the hamburger segment is the biggest portion; has been more than health with the National Restaurant Association estimating 5% growth to $142.4 billion in calendar 2006 . UBurger is looking to take advantage of this growth, spending $1,500 a month on advertising, although both owners admit that word-of-mouth has been a powerful tool, "one student tells another student and it seems like it snowballs" said Kouvlis .
