PERSUASIVE SPEECH
TITLE: NEWER GRADUATES PICKY IN JOB SELECTION
Fresh graduates are often very vigorous in looking for their first job. They are often very enthusiastic in getting the right job that they might make mistakes while doing so. Instead of boosting their chances of getting hired, they have jeopardized their chances of getting employed and improve their career.
If you are a fresh graduate, be careful in doing these mistakes. This may not destroy your entire career but it will put a dent on your chances of getting a good job from the start.
In my opinion, most of our graduates now place too much importance on image and position when they apply for jobs. They don’t think about stability and the long-term potential of the career they sought after.
I guess half of our present graduates are choosy and most are after high-paid positions without putting in the hard work and heavy efforts. Most seemed to be lacking in competency to work independently. Those from well-to-do families are too dependent on their parents and are often hesitant to work on their own capacity. Then, they complained that many lacked commitment and blamed it on the Malaysian education system.
Maybe it’s because the graduates feared taking risks and do not want to try new things, whereas those from private colleges behave the other way around if they can’t have their dream job, they don’t mind waiting not all of them, but many. Nowadays, not easy to find a job because our Malaysian economy are worst. For me, when the opportunity is not available, you have to create it.
On the tertiary education system, particularly at public universities, I’m felt that too much emphasis had been given to theories and very little opportunities for hands-on practice.
However lame you think your experience sounds, anything is better than nothing. Think back and see the job through the eyes of an employer. What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them? What skills did you develop? What training did you have? This is all great stuff for applications and interviews.
What happened to working hard first before making salary demands? Or gaining work experience before moving to a better-paying job? Surely that’s important too.
Perhaps the younger generation these days are just being realistic about their future, considering the rising cost of living, thinking about your PTPTN debt, enhance your maturity to developed your own life with your own money and career.
However, the problem lies in the fact that most youngsters choose to have lavish lifestyles instead of saving for the future. At the end of the day, no starting salary will be enough to support their spendthrift habit.
Always keep in mind that jobs can lead to other jobs. You never know if the job you think is beneath you can lead to the job you want. There’s always room to move up in the company. Always do more than what you are asked to do. Actually having that job, it can provide valuable work experience and knowledge, as well as the much needed dough.
Maybe, they search for the job that they love, they have wasted a little time but if there was really no vacancy for the post they looking for, they won’t hesitate to look for another job. They might be choosy at first but they cannot be choosy for the rest of their life for the sake of their family. This is my opinion why fresh graduates cannot be choosy pick their job but they need to take what opportunity coming first and you have to feel lucky if you got your 1st interview either you like it or not.
