Judging by delivery, Ninoy's speech may be a mixture of manuscript and extemporaneous because memorized speeches are usually brief and congratulatory and he must be a God if he was able to impromptu for an hour and half without stuttering. His speech was also incredibly smooth flowing which is common in manuscript and extemporaneous speeches.
Ninoy first engaged the audience's attention by stating," I am filled with happiness because this is the first experience in my life." This immediately gets listeners thinking of what he meant. He also said a quick quip, "We used to pay people to hear us. This is the first time people paid to hear me,” as a start.
Next, he used strong, simple and beautiful words such as "Faith sustained me," which not only made his speech easy to follow but also managed to reach out and move people.
When Ninoy spoke political terms, he made sure to use a lot of context. He described legislation by applying it in a situation. "If marcos is doing all the legislation, then why keep the 200 guys? What do they do? They change the name of Divisoria's street. They change the name of a school. But when it comes to public decrees, only Marcos signs it." He also used code switching to Filipino for his audience's understanding. "I am only human, ako po’y isang tao lamang."
His speech was filled with raw, intense emotions such as despair, hope, fear and courage that would have overwhelmed listeners but Ninoy balanced these well with humor and wit. Each of his sentences may as well be attention-getters. There was almost never a dull moment which is a great feat since his speech was lengthy. It won't be possible without the ideas being well-organized and logical.
Ninoy also delivered with such conviction and charisma. He was not afraid of sugar-coating his words which makes his speech feel genuine and allows the audience to have a clearer picture. "Jose Maria Sison was chained to his gut. His feet were chained. His hand was chained."
His voice was very clear, well-modulated and he had unnoticeable mispronunciation and accent. He also paused from time to time which help resonate the message. He also used body language but not too much to distract. When he's not moving his arms or pointing, he just rests his hands down the podium which shows he's in control. He had good facial expressions to convey his points. His clothes were also appropriate; not too flashy but not too casual, a classic suit. Ninoy maintained eye-contact with his audience which showed his assertiveness and empathy as a speaker.
