The name North Korea is commonly used for refer to the (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) or also known as the “DPRK”. North Korea is located North of South Korea and it is east of Asia and it is in the northern part of the Korean Peninsula. North Koreas capitol is Pyongyang. There is a North and South Korea because of a border called the “Korean Demilitarized Zone” or for short it’s called the (DMZ). The (DMZ) severs as a buffer zone between North Korea and South Korea. This is one of the most heavily armed borders in the world. Both the North and the South remained heavily dependent on their sponsor states from 1948 through to the outbreak of the Korean War. The war claimed over three million lives and divided the Korean Peninsula along ideological lines began on June 25, 1950 with a Soviet-sponsored DPRK invasion across the DMZ and ended in 1953 after international intervention pushed the front of the war back to near the 38th parallel. In the ceasefire of July 27, 1953 the DMZ was created as each side agreed in the armistice to move their troops back 2,000 meters from the front line creating a buffer zone four kilometers wide. The Military Demarcation Line (MDL) goes down the center of the DMZ and indicates exactly where the front was when the agreement was signed. Since the armistice agreement was never followed by a peace treaty. But the North and South is still technically at war.
The type of government in North Korea is said be a Dictatorship. The position of dictator was held by Kim II-Sung the current president of North Korea is Kim Yong-nam.
