The telephone rang; I dashed to answer the phone. A young mans voice said "Come on I'm outside". I hung up the phone put the finishing touches on my outfit and grabbed my cap and gown and rushed out the door. As I strolled out the house everyone said "congratulations", as I opened the door to the big blue Monte Carlo sitting on 20's and tinted windows, when I opened the car door Mike said, "Sophia you look nice". We got on I-96 freeway racing, by all the cars to get to our destination on time. Our exit was Middlebelt. We both said at the same time like synchronized swimmers at the Olympics, "I can't believe this day has come". A tear rolled down my face.

We pulled up to the red brick building, the sign out front said, "Congratulations Class of 2004". Charity, a friend of mines ran up to me crying and saying that we were starting in thirty minutes. As I walked down the long white hallway with pictures and decorations, I began to look back on all the good and bad memories I had, more good than bad luckily. My palms were sweaty as I approached the podium. It took me three minutes just to get my first words out. I just looked at my dad and he mouthed, you can do it. That word of encouragement was what I needed. After I got done with my speech the whole audience gave me a standing ovation like I just won some kind of game show. It was great! Further on in the ceremony it was time for the part I have been waiting on since August 23rd, 2000. As they called peoples names the crowd cheered. Man, it seemed liked years before my name was called. "Sophia Marie Wilks", Mr. Smith called. Yes, I was so excited, I finally did what I thought I couldn't do, graduate from Inkster High School.

After the graduation I felt on top of the world; like I was unstoppable. Pictures were being taken like we were at the Grammy's, why not, this was our day. Guys that I never thought I would see cry were crying their eyes out. My best friend Michael cried like there was no tomorrow, then I felt a warm hand on my shoulder. It was my dad smiling and crying tears of joy. I just knew then, that I couldn't fight back the tears any longer. My dad grabbed and hugged
