OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT GROUP WORK: POLICE HOSPITAL
ACTION PLAN: LAYOUT STRATEGY
Objectives:
* To determine the long run efficiency of operations in the hospital.
* To help the hospital achieve a strategy that supports differentiation.
* To develop an economic layout that will meet the hospital's competitive requirements.
Problems:
There was no clear accident centre identified at the entrance of the hospital. It was identified that some units in the hospital were dispersed in an imbalanced manner which may halt the flow of certain operations in the hospital. For example, the consultation rooms, laboratory and the x-ray unit are placed in separate buildings which delays the time a patient spends in the hospital. Also, the mortuary, kitchen, laundry, wards and the theatre all exist in the same building. The position of the mortuary may disturb the patients admitted in the wards, and visitors as well.
Actions:
We have decided to add two more buildings to address the layout problems of the hospital. However we recoicgnize that there is not that much space in the premise, so we have decided it should be a storey building.
In building one; there will be an X-ray unit, POP room, laboratory, dispensary, administration, OPD records.
In building two; there will be an eye clinic, dental unit, specialist consulting room, VCT center, and ENT clinic.
In building three; there will be a children's ward, adult wards and a theatre.
In building four; there will be a laundry and a kitchen.
