Smoking in films is sometimes thought of way of advertisement for tobacco companies. Smoking in films is necessary and why there is still smoking in society why should smoking be banned from film. Young people can look up to people in their own community that smoke. There are enough ads and information out there informing people of the harm that smoking causes. Branding teenagers and naive and vulnerable I think is unfair. Smoking is sometimes necessary in film.

Smoking is everywhere, there is no escaping the rafts of smoking it is an issue in society and until then how could it be excluded form films. When James Callen states “smoking ads to the realism of his films”, he is exactly right that characters that he is portraying are smokers without that filming them like that, the characters would become fake. Why not spend time worrying about why smoking is in our society and why he feels he must make his characters smoke to show the characters in his movies would be the real issue. Smoking in some ways is still very much accepted in our society so therefore should be accepted in films.

Young people tend to look up to there peers and people around them to help them make decisions about things such as smoking. So I think that people that are rolemodles for the young people should be there to educate but I think that children will still make the decision for themselves

On every single cigarette packet there are warnings about smoking, on every channel on television, radio and magazines. To smoke within 1 meter of any business area is now also illegal. The signs that smoking is bad are simply everywhere. Smoking at the end of the day is a personal choice and that information had been given that I think that children could more likely make the right decisions. Movies are not condoning smoking there are many movies that show the effects of smoking. I think the teenagers in our society are wise enough
