There are a few environmental forces that will be difficult for Green River to manage. They all influence the outcome of the structure and culture of the organization. Organizational structure determines how employees use resources to achieve the goals of the organization. Organizational culture is influenced by the ways employees think, feel, and behave toward each other with shared sets of values, beliefs, and norms. Organizational structure depends on organizational environment, advances in technology, and an organization's human resources. Organizational culture depends on the interaction of characteristics of people, ethics, employment relationships, and the design of its structure.
The first force they will have trouble managing is going to be the employee relationships. Reason being is because these employees are so use to the norm that they might not be ready for change. The manager has to get them ready and make the change as easy for them as possible. This is very important to creating the organizational structure and culture. When people must work together to accomplish some goal they have to be able to interact freely, there will always be some miscommunication, competition, and conflict. To help avoid these people problems well designed human resource policies can be put in place. This helps align an employee's goals with goals of the company (George & Jones, 2005). Promoting from within will also increase the strong values and norms, build loyalty, and encourage employees to work harder to advance within the company.
The second force that they will have trouble managing is going to be the information technology that will help open the lines of communication along with helping build employee relationships. This is very important to organizational culture because it effects how the organization groups and coordinates their activities. IT helps increase communication and coordination between teams, functions, and divisions.
