The fear of overpopulation has haunted people for many years, in fact it can be traced all the way back to the times of the Greeks and Romans in the Middle Ages. But the question many people ask themselves and others is "Does overpopulation really exist in the US." The answer is yes, not only does the US have the highest birthrate out of all of the modern nations but immigration is an ongoing problem. The US gains about 2,200,000 people a year and many of these people are immigrants. Immigrants alone could account for the high birthrate in the US which is about 8 people per second. Many of these immigrants are uneducated Mexicans that come to the US and have child after child. In fact in about 25 years it is believed that Latinos, Hispanics, Mexicans, whatever you want to call them are going to out number every other racial group in the US. This would be fine except for the fact that many of these people will not even know how to speak English. Immigration and high birth rates may be a problem but one of the biggest problems will be the effects that it will have on the earth. If an area is overpopulated the effects on the earth can be catastrophic for example, there will be no room for crops and if there are no crops nobody will eat. Also if the area is overpopulated there will be no room for animals and that's another major food supply for the US.
