Compare and Contrast essay

In 1942 the United States, , after the attack in Pearl Harbor, lots of relocation centers were opened, such as Manzanar. These centers were for the Japanese descents living in the United States. Afraid that the Japanese might try to take over, Franklin D. Roosevelt signed an order stating the removal of all Japanese from their homes into camps.

The manzanar camp was north east of Los Angeles by Sierra Nevada, they were quickly assembled barracks that weren't built well, and each was as big as a living room but held 12 people and had one little light, they had to keep they're block clean and had to go to sleep by 9pm.

Camps like Tule Lake, CA, were camps that had a lot of protest demonstrations and strikes. As a result is was changed to a segregation camp and was used to hold prisoners from other camps that refused to do what they were told. The camp in Gila River, AZ, which was divided in to a canal camp and a butte camp. The camp had over 1100 Japanese citizens from both camps, which served in the US. Armed services. The state of Arizona put in schools in both camps, around 100 graduated, and nearly 1000 prisoners worked in the 8000 acres of farm land around the camps.

The camp in Heart Mountain, WY, was made up of 468 buildings, divided into 20 blocks; each block had two laundry toilet buildings. Each building had 6 rooms, ranged in sizes from 16' x 20' to 20' x 24'. There were 200 employees, 124 solders, and 3 officers. Military police were stationed in 9 guard towers, with search lights, and surrounded by barbwire.

These camps were erected all over the United States, out of fear and retaliation for the attack on Pearl Harbor. People may have thought that placing all the Japanese people into these camps was the right thing to do at the time; however, the Japanese were treated no better
