Along the way their boat wrecked and left them stranded on Sandy Hook, Her Husband became sick, when another boat came to rescue them he was to sick to go with them so Penelope stayed with her husband so that she could help him get better and the other said they would send help when they got back to shore.
They had not been there very long when Indians attacked them and killed them, but Penelope survived She was severally cut and mangled, her skull was fractured, her left shoulder was hacked and her stomach was split wide open so that her bowels hang out.
She woke up after the Indians left, she put her insides back in her stomach and kept her hand there to keep them in and crawled to a large hollow tree near by, she ate the sap and the bark off of the tree for 7 days, when she looked out and saw a Deer run past the tree with a arrow in it and 2 Indians chasing it. She climbed out of the tree and laid in front of the Indians hoping they would kill her. One Indian went to kill her but the older one stopped him, put his coat around her and took her to his wigwam, sewed her up and put band aids on her and made her better. She was there for a long time and taught the old Indian English while she was there.
