Perception and communication are areas that I feel that everyone needs improvement on. Perception of the way people see things or people is always confused on what actually the situation is and communication amongst people now a days is so confused on what is appropriate and what isn't. People both young and old don't have good communication skills and no matter what peoples perception of one another is never going to actually be accurate.
The areas of communication that I feel that I need to work on are staying focused in the conversation, making better eye contact, and actually sound interested in a conversation even if I'm not. Sometimes its really hard for me to stay focused in a conversation with someone when they're talking about something that I do not have any interest in. My mind starts to wonder and think about things that I could think about later, like what I am going to wear tonight when I go out or what am I going to do this weekend. When my mind starts to wonder I stop making eye contact which in turn lets another good communicator know that I'm either disinterested in the conversation or my mind is focused on other things. I start looking at what the person I'm either speaking to or "listening" to is wearing, what they're doing with their hands, or I look at what is going on in the back round. When it comes down to actually having to respond or communicate back after letting my mind wonder and losing interest it what was said a simple one word answer or "uh-huh" isn't acceptable and I can't come up with anything else because I wasn't paying attention. I know myself that I need to work on these things to improve my communications skills.
When it comes to my perception on people I know that they may not always be right but I stick to my guns and don't let anyone try to convince me otherwise. My perception or views of people is very important to me.
