Personal Perspective Paper

During my first week as a student at the University of Phoenix, as an online student, we have been introduced to many new ways of learning through technology. The University has numerous valuable resources' available to the students through the rEsource, and an extensive online library. The implementation of Learning Teams and a unique Problem-Based Learning model; make the learning experience at the University a priceless asset to today's students.

The Value of rEsource

The rEsource page on each student homepage is a unique and accommodating way of making materials available to its students. Through the rEsource, we have access to each required reading for the course, which we may print, read online, or save the materials. There are templates' for documents, whitepapers, simulations, links to the required textbooks, all available to each student. The University also has an excellent online library, which provides us with access to numerous online databases. A few examples of these databases include:

The EBSCOhost database includes the full text of nearly 4,000 periodicals, including over 2,000 scholarly journals. This resource is appropriate for courses in all subjects. (University of Phoenix, Online Library, 2006.)

The InfoTrac OneFileÐ'® database includes the full text of over 6,000 periodicals and newswires. This resource is appropriate for courses in all subjects. (University of Phoenix, Online Library, 2006.)

The ProQuestÐ'® database contains daily newspapers, including the Wall Street Journal and New York Times, and scholarly journals covering virtually all subjects. Searches in ProQuestÐ'® can be limited to a particular publication type (newspapers or periodicals) depending on specific research needs. This resource is appropriate for courses in all subjects. (University of Phoenix, Online Library, 2006.)

All rEsource learning aides that are available will be invaluable tools throughout the MBA program. In addition to rEsource learning aides, students in each course are divided into Learning Teams, which have proven to be essential elements of the University's Teaching/Learning Model.

The Value of Learning Teams

The values of the learning teams used in the curriculm at the University of Phoenix are going to be invaluable tools during the course of the MBA program. The learning teams are designed to prepare the students to function adequately in today's workforce as well as in our personal and academic lives. We will learn to handle the challenges that we face in every facet of our lives. Working in these learning teams, each of us will broaden our scope of knowledge; learn to respect and consider other's needs and perspectives, and to become effective problem-solvers. In order to facilitate the students to become knowledgeable in problem-solving, the University has designed the Problem-Based Learning Model.

The Value of Problem-Based Learning

The Problem-Based Learning Model is a 9-step model, which guides the students to develop and implement effective problem-solving skills. The 9-step model consists of the following:
