The Danger of Fast Food
INTRODUCTION
- Attention Getter: A stunning fact by the Fast Food Nation in 2001 reveal that “Considering America’s love of the French fry, it’s no surprise that kids are getting bigger. The percentage of children and teenagers who are overweight has tripled in the past 30 years, according to the Center for Disease Control. One-third of overweight students are so heavy they will probably have serious health problems later in life.”
- Thesis: Many Americans regularly consume fast food without taking in account the varies health issues that can result of such nutrition, and it is causing big problems that need solutions.
BODY
- Point One, PROBLEM: Fast food restauration is linked to many health issues.
- A low nutritional value, the high number of calories, sodium and high fat, content on most fast foods can lead to serious damages of our circulatory system.
- A study published in the Canadian journal of cardiology in 2012 indicates that damage to the arteries occurs almost immediately after just one – that’s right, one – junk food meal.
- The rise of obesity in the U.S population is linked to the high intake of calorie
- Studies published in the New Medical Life Science by the doctor Ananya Mandal have shown that over the past four decades, consumption of food eaten away from home has also risen alarmingly. It is well known that eating out may lead to excess calorie intake and increases the risk of obesity because of large portion sizes and increased energy density of foods.
- Junk Food can harm memory
- According to a 2010 article published in "Nature Reviews Neuroscience." At the same time, eating large amounts of trans fats, found in many fast foods, can interfere with normal neuronal firing, the article explains. This can have a negative impact on brain health because it essentially damages the neurons in such a way that they aren't able to fire properly.

- Point Two, SOLUTION: Choose a more balanced diet. Shift the culture’s attitude towards diet in corporations, education, and government programs.
- The fast food industry has started improving their menu to make it more appealing for people looking a way to conceal their love for fast food and the good maintain of their heath condition.
- For example, many fast foods have stopped using trans-fat in their menu and have more items with fruits, vegetable.
- Engaging children and adolescents in healthy eating and regular physical activity can lower their risk for obesity and related chronic diseases
- The government should invest in advertising right education and send positive messages on the goodness of home-made meals
- Advertising affects the choices we make, whether we like it or not. According to an article published in 2012 by Deirdre Imus, a research in Quebec , Canada have found that banning fast food advertising toward kids have lowered the amount of fast food calories they consume a year by 13.4 to 18.4 billion and the saving of $88 million.

- Point Three, REFUTATION: Many people argued that fast food is not bad as many want us to think
- According to the Nutrition calculator from Mc Donald it is easy to conclude that fast food restauration it is not meant to be consumed every day. A single large menu at Mc Donald composed of 1 Big Mac, French fries, coca cola and an Ice cone has 1380 calories, based on a 2000 calorie diet, this represent 70% of the daily intake in just one lunch. Not considering the breakfast and the diner, this is already too much.
- Much of the problem with fast food is that it not only affects the consumers with its excess calories, but it ruins their perceptions of portion sizes and taste by the adding of too much sweetener
- A study conducted by the Oakton Community College in 2002 have found that “, the money spent on home cook meals are significantly lower than eating out. You would be saving as much as $45 per week.”

CONCLUSION
- Summary: Not only I have told you how the fast food restauration is linked to many health issues and how a more balanced diet can help but also, I tried to explain to you how thinking that fast food does not hurt health is a false assertion
- Memorable Ending: Not deciding today to eat well means mortgaging the health of our children. So, decide and make the right choice.
