Phil Esposito was born in Sault Ste. Marie February 20th 1942 and grew up with Ross Hryhorchuck and other boys from his Italian community. His Parent were France and Patrick Esposito and had one brother Tony Esposito who also played in the NHL as a goalie. Tony and Phil would play hockey together every day after school until supper when there mother would call them in, and then right after supper Tony and Phil would be right back out there, Tony would be the goalie ad Phil would shoot on him. There father would give them every chance to play hockey. There father wold be out side flooding the ice rink so that in the morning they would be able to go out and shoot before school. Phil once told his guidance councilor Mrs. Cummings that he wanted to be a hockey player when he grows up. She sent a note home saying that she wanted to meet with his parents, so his parents go in there and tell that teacher " if this is what he wants to do then that's what he's gonna do." Phil had three wives, Linda, Donna, and Bridget. He also had 3 daughters Cherise, Carrie, and Laurie.
Phil's first started out as a Chicago Black Hawk. He was making 8,000$ a year when he was traded to the Boston Bruins. During the late 60's and early 70's the Boston Bruins had an awesome team and Phil was a giant part of the bruins 2 Stanley Cups in 1970 and 1972, along with other great players like Bobby Orr, Johnny Bucyk, Gary Cheevers, Eddie Shack and Kenny Hodge, just to name a few. Harry Sinden was Phil's coach in Boston and Phil said that he was his favorite coach. Phil participated in the 1972 "Summit Series" where Phil was a huge contributor to one of the best series ever in the history of hockey. He even assisted on the most famous goal in hockey, Paul Henderson's winning goal in the final 2 minutes with the series tied at 3-3 and this was the deciding game.
