How would you feel if you had a child and would not be accepted by his or her grandparents, because they were of an inter-racial ethnic? Even through that he or she is mixed, she feels as if she doesn't belong anywhere. In the section "Grandparents and Legacies: Poems", the poem "Heritage" was most interesting to me because in the future I plan on having a child by my fiancй, who is of a different race than me. Rather or not someone admits that they stereotype, we as a society do stereotype others. In, "Heritage", the writer was effected by her being of an Anglo decent and Native American.

The writer suggests in the first six lines, the woman that is being written about, is someone who resembles her mother from the wrinkles in her face, to her breasts. The writer also mentions that the breasts are white. The woman also, was taught by her mother to bake bread. In lines seven the woman gets her brown eyes from her father. It seems that she only has her brown eyes to talk about her father. She probably didn't have a good relationship with him. I personally do not have much to say about my father other than I got temper from him. Her mother taught her things, and she sees more of her mother within her self.

In lines ten through sixteen, she speaks of her uncle, who is an older man. Her uncle teaches her the chants that are done in their heritage so that she can have some knowledge of her roots. The chants that her uncle teaches her are the same ones that he tells her father to not remember. I assume it is because her father married her mother who is a white woman and he is Native American. Lines seventeen through twenty, her grandfather doesn't speak to her, but he does teach her to kill a snake. Her grandfather may not accept that his son, her father, married a white woman, but he does acknowledge that she is his granddaughter.

In lines twenty-one through forty-six, the writer writes about the woman's grandmother. Her grandma is not the loving, caring grandma that most of us have in our lives. Her grandma used snuff and would spit it back in a can. "When
