HR Policy Alleviation
The subject of this scenario represents a situation that is found in most companies around the globe. That is that people are put in a position to act upon their instincts without the proper training and motivation. Then when they attempt to act upon these instincts, they are punished with no explanation. Through trial and error, the process is learned and accepted to be the norm or the quintessential statement "that is the way we have always done it." There are several ways that the issue can be addressed and this paper will discuss one of the ways that Human Resources could resolve the issue through the alleviating this policy.
In the scenario, the apes were put into the cage and because of their natural instincts they went for the bananas. The other members of the group attempted the same feat and are likewise punished. The group was punished but for what? Even after the original group is replaced, the result is the same; punishment for attempting to take the bananas. Without an explanation for the punishment, the others learn that that is not an accepted practice and discipline each other attempting to retrieve the bananas. This punishment establishes an unspoken guideline that is passed on to the future groups. This is the same with individuals that are highly motivated and punished for doing what they perceive as right. People are recruited for the particular abilities they possess and to perform tasks that are suited to their skills. Individuals that are motivated attempt to climb the ladder of success and expect to be recognized for the efforts put forth.
A policy needs to be established that addresses the efforts and abilities of the individuals as well as to displace the status quo currently in place. The first step is to eliminate the fears that people have when they attempt to strive to reach their goals. If a person fears that each time they attempt to do a task they will be punished, than they will not perform the task. A policy that rewards incremental accomplishments needs to be established to
