Is pollution a necessary evil? Pollution causes a risk to our safety in this world but it is also the cause of convenience. Cars are one of the most harmful things to the earth but it is also one of the most convenient and efficient modes of transportation. An article by Union of Concerned Scientists states, “Collectively, cars and trucks account for nearly one-fifth of all U.S. emissions, emitting around 24 pounds of carbon dioxide and other global-warming gases for every gallon of gas. About 5 pounds comes from the extraction, production, and delivery of the fuel, while the great bulk of heat-trapping emissions—more than 19 pounds per gallon—comes right out of a car’s tailpipe.” showing how harmful cars are to the earth causing pollution but also how our health is affected. But an article written by Robin Chase states that, “95 percent of American households own a car, and most Americans get to work by car (85 percent)” showing how dependent people are on cars because on the convenience of this mode of transportation

Many types of industries such as crop protection and pesticide. It damages the environment and result in the contaminations of our drinking water, but it is still necessary in order to have enough food for human beings. The Natural Resources Defense Council state, “From 2000-2008 California alone had over 7,600 reported pesticide poisoning cases (individual people poisoned) resulting in almost 200 hospitalizations” showing that it not only harms the environment but also people that may be exposed to it. An article by Fox News states, “Insects, mice, unwanted plants, fungi and microorganisms (viruses and bacteria) can damage crops, humans or other animals. Pesticides are designed to stop all of these pests, as well as herbicides and fungicides...By stopping these pests in their tracks, pesticides protect your vegetation and stop disease-carrying organisms.” showing that it may harm people but it saves many more from potentially
