Pope Pius XI campaigns against new Women's Fashions

Today, December 13,1926, Pope Pius XI (May 31, 1857 Ð'- February 10, 1939) stood in front of The Catholic Men's Association, addressing about one thousand people, to express his deep interest to participate in a campaign against "immoral and irrelevant" women's fashions. This inappropriate Ð''dress' in closely related to dancing and especially manners because of the way females may carry themselves in this type of Ð''dress'. After Cardinal Ambrogio Damiano Achille Ratti was anointed as Pope Pius XI on February 5 of this year, he seeks to strongly enforce his opinions on Ð''proper', modest female attire. As a Catholic, Pope Pius XI wanted to enforce and enlarge the principles of decent women's dress in the society. He associates this extreme women's dress code as "an ugly, ruinous, catastrophic tendency which Catholic husbands, fathers and brothers should attempt to check at all costs." Where did Pope Pius XI firstly see this improper female dress code? He acknowledged a need for a change in women's clothing during his seventeen years of reign, from February 6,1922 to his death, in Vatican City, a sovereign state whose territory is within the city of Rome, Italy. Pope Pius helps to keep the European-style dress.

On March 6,1922 Pope Pius XI marks the first day when Pope Pius decided he needed to appeal to the citizens of Rome about the explicit style of women's dress that had just been formed. He decided to use campaigns to oppose new women's fashions. This Catholic pope strongly believed in a biblical quote that states, "Lord, save me from an irrelevant and shameless soul." Indirectly, Pope Pius XI is saying that the dress now worn by women is not necessary and that only blatantly unintelligent people would ever think of even stepping out of their house in such a manner, much less to even to support such an improper style clothing by buying it. When he mentions today's women fashion as a "catastrophic tendency," he is warning the public of what dangerous outcomes are going to follow it, if wearing these style clothes becomes a trend.
