What changed the world? It might have different answers. It might be science and technology. It might be those geniuses like Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Steve Jobs, and so on. It might be entrepreneurship. And it goes…
But all the possible answers have one thing in common – IDEA. Idea actually changed the world. It came in different forms in different heads and later applied to push the human race.
The world is becoming competitive day by day. Ideation and productivity are now prerequisite to survival. So, I, Mohammad Wahidul Islam, ID 19041, am going to present on how creative organizational behavior can confront boredom and trigger ideation.
There are many. But due to time constraint, I will be describing 4 creative organizational behaviors and the first one is scheduling time for creative behavior. Talk about Google. Every day, it allocates 20% of employees’ business hours for relaxation so that they can sit back, have some coffees, and head-start again with fresh mind.
The second one is putting up happy images and colors. For example, a manager knows this particular subordinate is a big fan of Pink Floyd. So, if the manager allows him/her to put some Pink Floyd posters around the desk, the subordinate will feel like home. And talking about colors, they also influence us psychologically. For example, light blue wall refreshes your mind. Red makes you feel desperate, driven. That’s why majority restaurants write down their brand names on red background, like KFC, McDonald.
The third one is converging people from different cultures. Study finds that people from different cultures come up with different solutions to a same problem. That’s pretty obvious that I, as a Bangladeshi, am not thinking in the same way as an American does.
The fourth and the last one is facilitating brainstorming. Now some organizations are providing brainstorming room where people from different managerial level gather, brainstorm and bring about new ideas. Now, very recently, an American advertising agency named Nail Communications has taken it to a next level. They call it rainstorming. It is based on the belief that all good ideas come up during taking shower. So, they introduced a rainstorming room with water-proof pen and papers where discuss things and take shower at the same time.
