Pride and Prejudice
Even though parents have the best interests for their children, they may have very different opinions on simple things. In the book Pride and Prejudice written by Jane Austin, the characters Mr. Bennet and Mrs. Bennet make contrasting first impressions on the reader. Through the book the reader can conclude that they love their daughters very much and want the best for them. But sometimes they just have very different ways of showing it.
Mrs. Bennet is preoccupied with the idea of her daughters getting married to a good man, of a good nature. In this quote Mrs. Bennet says, “You must know that I am thinking of his marrying one of them”(Ch.1). She shows that she really wants her daughters to get married. Mrs. Bennet wants her husband to know that she thinks about this all the time, and it occupies her mind constantly. Therefore when Mrs. Bennet says “But, my dear, you must indeed go and see Mr. Bingley when he comes into the neighborhood” (Ch.1). She wants her husband to make the first move to meet Mr. Bingley, so their family would have a good first impression. This is the polite way to meet a new man that could be a possible suitor for your daughter. Mrs. Bennet is very persistent when she suggests that she wants her husband to meet Mr. Bingley, so that

the rest of the family could meet him. She shows that she really wants her daughters to get married all through the book.
Mr. Bennet is relaxed when he thinks about his daughters getting married, he knows that it will happen. In this quote, “But I hope you will get over it, and live to see many young men of four thousand a year come into the neighborhood” (Ch.1). As a reader you can infer that Mr. Bennet knows that his daughters are very pretty, and well suitable for marriage. So
