-Taking in the time and Netherland preference - worldly balance. Balance she’s holding is the scales of St. Michael at the last judgment.
-Scene behind her is the last judgment scene. Head is exactly where Michael would be in the painting.
-Don’t know if he had a model for the painting but it’s the common subject with rescrubbed souls at the bottom and heaven at the top with Michael and the scales.
-Personification of vanity as she prepares to weigh the pearls as well as the personification of St. Michael. Multiple possible meaning and associations which was appreciated in the period.
