Problem Analysis Summary

The purpose of this paper is to provide a summary of a work related problem. Analyze the problem, provide a brief background, and identify the triggering event that exposed the problem and the applicable components of critical thinking.

High employee turnover cost companies significantly in resources, time and productivity. However, not all employee turnovers are detrimental.

The definition of turnover in the U.S. human resources terminology, refers to the characteristics of a given company or industry, relative to the rate at which employer gains and loses staff. (wikipedia.org)

In the hotel industry, it is common knowledge that when a hotel opens its doors for the first time, they need to have enough staff on duty to satisfy all the needs of the expected guests. Hotels over hire on purpose. However after a short period of time, about 6 months later, that same hotel may lay off hundreds of employees because there is low demand. A new hotel receives thousands of customers within the first 3 months of opening its doors, just 6 months after opening, the novelty has worn off and so has the number of guest staying in the hotel. Therefore the hotel can pick and choose the best employees to keep on staff.

There are many reasons for high employee turnover. If an employee displays a poor work performance, has many personal issues and is unable to work, or simply they may just not be a team player, they may most likely be separated from the company.

The company's main competitor may move into the area and offer higher wages, better benefits, or a better working environment and manage to take thousands of employees away from the company.

It is important to be aware of the possibilities, think strategically and have a plan in your working life and in your personal life. Being in a position to change from a negative outcome
