Cropping a Photo

The following procedure is assisting in cropping a photo, the software program that will be used is Microsoft Photo Editor. Cropping photos will help remove the unnecessary space in a photo, or if there is something that is not wanted in the photo such as a tree or a car. Cropping photos will enhance the photo and help emphasize what the main part of the photo is.

Retrieve the Photo

The first part in cropping a photo is deciding the photo that you would like to change. There are many options when saving your photo to a file on your computer.

„X Using a Scanner: if you decide that you want to retrieve your photo through a scanner, you put the picture on the glass of the scanner. Make sure that you are aware of the positioning of the photo. The best spot on the glass is the top left-hand corner. Once the photo is scanned a dialogue box will pop up on the screen and ask if you would like to save the photo. Click yes, but be aware of the exact location to which you save it so that you can find it later.

„X Using a CD-ROM. If the picture you have is on a CD-ROM, put the CD into the CD slot and wait for the dialogue box to give you the choice of opening the CD. Once you open the CD, save the picture in your documents so that you can retrieve it later.

„X Using the Internet. If you have a picture that you would like to retrieve from the Internet, click the mouse on the left-hand side to activate, and click the right side of the computer mouse. A side bar will appear, and it will give you the option to save as, highlight that option and make sure you save it in My Documents, and make sure that you remember where you save it.

Open the File

1. Once you have saved the file to My Documents, go to File, which is the on the top left hand corner of the screen.

2. Click on the File tab and drag the cursor down till you get to the option Open.

3. When you click the Open option, the software will take you to a box that will have two parts that you need to enter information in. It will ask you for the file name, which refer back to the name that you saved your photo under. Make sure that the right file is entered at the
