Types of psychology: counseling- deal with people who have adjustment problems. Forensic: deal with crime scenes and situations w/ law. Clinical- focus on Those with psychological disorders such as anxiety and depression. Educational: involved in preparing standardized tests.school: help kids adjust and school life. Experimental: conduct research into basic processes such as functions of the nervous system or sensation and perception.
The Scientific study of behavior and mental processes- psychology, any action that people. Can observe or measure-behavior, private mental processes- cognitive behavior, research method in which psychologists ask several groups questions- survey, episodic memory:memory of a specific event, procedure memory: skills and procedures that you have learned, once these skills have been learned it is unlikely they will be forgotten(bike riding, throwing a ball). General knowledge that people remember but no specific memory : generic memory, maintenance rehearsal: time relating or rehearsing information over and over . Elaborating rehearsal: relating the information to meaningful info. Short term: stage memory that is known as working memory. Storage: the maintenance of encoded information over time. Tip of the tongue: the feeling you know something or the FACT you know something but are not able to retrieve it. Retrieval: locating your stored into and returning it to conscious thought. Flashbulb memory: very detailed memories about a significant or surprising event, they are usually positive memories that are connected with an event that is important in time , it's like taking a picture of something. Encoding: translation of information into a form that it can be stored in the brain. State dependent memory: what state of mind where you in when you experienced the memory, mood influences memory. Memory: process by which. We recollect our memories . Heart disease: structure of functional abnormality of the heart, blood vessels; migraines: severe headaches throbbing occurrence, triggered by stress. Insomnia: persistent disorder making it hard to sleep, stay awake for a long time. Diabetes: chronic condition difficult for body to process sugar(glucose) , insulin resistance, blood levels are not normal. Obesity: persons overweight, unhealthy. Gas: bowel movement difficult, frequent. Asthma: condition in which a person's airways become inflamed , narrow, making it hard to breathe.chronic pain: pain that persist longer than six months, active in nervous system, excruciating pain. Biological: nervous system, glands and hormones genetic factors, influence behavior and mental process. humanistic: self concept, people make free and conscious choices based on their unique experiences.
