1.  What have you found in your research to be relevant to the Queen’s Residence Life philosophy and goals of our Residence Rules and Regulations with respect to community, well-being and academic success?

After reading the handbook I now understand why O week is a dry week and why the rules were put up. Queens residence have made these rules to ensure our safety and well being of myself and everyone in residence for the rules were made so our first week in university is enjoyed and we are safe rather than just drinking alcohol. In my research I found that queens residence set up the rules so we can have success transitioning from high school to university and living away from home for the first time. The goals and life philosophy of queens residence life is that we as freshmen have a chance to make new friends and bond with our residence/floor while being safe.

2.  What are some of the negative consequences of drinking alcohol that you would like to avoid?

The negative consequences that I would like to avoid is my loss of self-control, drinking causes peoples nerves and ability to think logically to be affected negatively which in turn causes people to make bad decisions that can be life or death. Another consequence is that alcohol is very unhealthy and sometimes deathly to your body and internal organs. Drinking can causes cancer and create problems in our liver and heart, especially binge drinking! Finally drinking can have a negative effect on your social and academic life.  Drinking can cause you to lose drinking because of making bad decisions when impaired and you will struggle in school from not having enough sleep or being hangover during classes!

3. Why do you believe residence is alcohol-free during Orientation week? How does this help address the complex issue of alcohol misuse on campus?

The reasons I believe O-week is alcohol free is because it relieves the pressure one may get from being in a completely new surrounding and trying to fit in with everyone else so you would do things you most likely wouldn’t do without all the peer pressure because you don’t want to feel left out. Having a dry O-week helps to address the misuse of alcohol on campus as it promotes having fun without alcohol and avoiding drinking all together.
