1. PURPOSE

1.1 To provide a standard procedure that will help the IE-EMG undergraduate students comply with the requirements of PRTCUM111L and PRTCUM213.

1.2 To help prepare senior students for employment in the industry of their choice. In this guideline, the student is assigned the responsibility for selecting an industry he/she is interested in and studying the said industry (e.g., productivity, unions, exports, technology). With enough knowledge on the industry, the students can choose a company within the industry of their choice where they can conduct study or possibly work for.

1.3 To encourage independent research on the student's part that is pertinent to his/her career. The independent research is to be carried out in the library and through companies, associations, various government agencies, and other sources of vital information.

1.4 To develop teamwork by having students assist each other in obtaining information regarding their research.

2. SCOPE

2.1. This GUIDELINE applies to all IE-EMG students enrolled in PRTCUM111L and PRTCUM213.

2.2 This GUIDELINE is applicable to all faculty members assigned as Course Coordinators, panel member or Advisor.

4. POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

4.1 GENERAL

1. All IE-EMG students enrolled in PRTCUM111L/PRTCUM213 shall be required to undergo a minimum of 240 hours of on-the-job training in a chosen industry. The said number of hours must be completed within two terms. In case of change of company, number of hours earned from the previous company shall be credited in addition to the OJT hours earned from the present company.

2. Students enrolled in PRTCUM111L may be endorsed by the Dean to any industry as requested by the student. The student shall earn a grade of "F" if they fail to find a Sponsor company within the term. To avoid getting a grade of "F", the student shall be given the option to drop the subject within the time period given by the registrar. However, if the student failed to drop the subject within the given time, he/she shall take the risk of getting a grade of "F" or "C".

3. Students shall be given one (1) year to complete PRTCUM111L or PRTCUM213. Any student who fails to comply with the requirements of PRTCUM111L or PRTCUM213 within one year should re-enroll the course.

4. In case of change in the research problem, the students shall obtain a grade of "C" but he/she must complete the study in minimum of two terms.

5. The Practicum advisor may qualify as the co-proponent of the research paper provided that the Advisor is involved in the conduct of research for the said paper.

6. The Course Coordinators shall assign another panel member in circumstances that one of the panel members cannot possibly take part in the oral defense. As much as possible, the replacement panel member should have the capability to perform as panel. The course coordinator cannot be the research Advisor nor sit as one of the panel member of his/her student.

7. Submission of Application Form for Oral Defense and copies of research study will be from 8 AM to 7 PM only. After the 7 PM cut-off, the count will start on the following day. Last day of defense is every last day of lecture or before the final week excluding Sundays of each term.

8. The student advisee shall defend his/her final paper as scheduled. In case of re-defense, the panel may be re-convened by the assigned Course Coordinators subject to the approval of Research Coordinator and the Dean.

9. The Course Coordinator shall assign a maximum of two students in conducting the research study.

10. A bonus grade shall be given to students who volunteer to present their research work in the colloquium or other local seminar/symposium. The advisor shall check the quality of the study prior to its presentation. A written agreement should be done.

11. In cases wherein the student is already working, the requirement for company study shall depend on the discretion of the Advisor. However, necessary clearances must be secured from the company.

4.2 RESEARCH PRACTICUM PROPOSAL (FIRST TERM - PRTCUM111L)

1. All IE-EMG undergraduate students who have completed pre-requisites for Practicum may enroll in PRTCUM111L.

2. Students will look for Sponsor Company. Students can consult with the IE-EMG Linkage Coordinator for possible Sponsor Company. (Endorsement can be requested by the student upon his/her enrolment with the subject PRTCUM111L. Please refer to Attachment 1 for sample company letter of request). While looking for a Sponsor Company, the student can already start preparing his/her research proposal. The student can seek advise from the Course Coordinator regarding the topic. The Course Coordinator can suggest possible topics to his/her student. The student should prepare and submit a description of his/her research area including the objectives of the study to his/her Course Coordinator. The Course Coordinator shall endorse the student to the Research Practicum Advisor (refer to Attachment 2).

3. Once the student is accepted by the company, he/she should prepare Student Agreement Waiver (refer to Attachment 3 for the sample waiver). After the waiver has been notarized, he/she should submit 2 copies to his/her Course Coordinator. The Course Coordinator will forward the two copies to the IE-EMG Research Coordinator.

4. During the term, the student should regularly consult with his/her Research Practicum Advisor regarding the report/study within the agreed schedule. The Advisor shall prepare a Monitoring Sheet per student (refer to Attachment 4) to monitor their progress in research practicum.

5. The student should prepare two reports, namely, a company report and a research report. The company report is prepared to comply with the requirements of the company and the research
