In my proposal I would like to touch on the subject of racism and explain how this is an ongoing issue in our society. Even though we can't completely stop this way of thinking, we can take the time to set forth more positive lifestyles.
Being discriminated against because of the color of your skin or the ethnicity you were raised is unacceptable in our society today. Since the words of the great Dr. Martin Luther King, we've slowly begun to overcome this narrow-mindedness still demonstrated today. Even though we can't stop this way of thinking in others, we can set forth a more positive and open-minded lifestyle. Taking into consideration the number of advantages a white individual has had in the past, we strive to make these advantages possible for all citizens in our country. Racism will never be cured, but every effort should be made to decrease this negativity towards many races. Since we all come from different cultures and ethnicities, we have a different outlook on life and seem to bump heads from time to time. This is perfectly normal when you realize how these different cultures are raised to think. From the hate movie that we watched in class, it explains how people with low self esteem and no sense of belonging tend to be recruited into these racist groups. In these groups, these individuals drift through life looking for reasons to feel accepted by their peers especially when this leads to crime and violence. No matter the repercussions, they won't stop until they've earned respect from their gangs.
While we've all experienced some form of discrimination in our lives, its time to open our minds to different opinions and ways of life. Racism is intolerable in our society today and we need to make every effort to cut down on this nationwide phenomena.
