The Life Of Da'Marcus Roberts As I Know It Today

I was born at Baylor Hospital on September 24, 1969 at 0935 a.m. from the parents of Gloria and Oscar Roberts. I was the first born of three boys. I grew up in South Dallas or as they call it today, "Da Sunny South" We wasn't a poor family but we wasn't rich either. I do remember fighting a lot as a kid in South Dallas, You either was a fighter or you got punked everyday.

As a young boy I remember my first love for sports was at the Martin Luther King Center and later at the Boys Club. That's when I found my true love for Boxing. By the time I was 11 years old I was runner up in Silver Gloves in Boxing and at age 14 and 15 I won the Texas Golden Gloves twice. I guess all that fighting in the Projects did me some good after all.

When I was going to middle school in Dallas, Oak Cliff I didn't like it at all because all of my friends was in South Dallas and the school I went to was D.A. Hulcy. I had to prove myself in sports and to my teachers. Some of the guys wanted to test me to see if I was really from the South and of course I had to give them the business. I was good in track, football and soccer, but coach had his favorites and I didn't get to much playing time in any event in middle School. It was very frustrating not being able to play so I started skipping school and getting into the streets. I was saved though when I got to high school. I met the football coach, Freddie James and said I don't care what you did last year everyone will earn there spot on this team and that's what I did. As a freshman I was an alternate on the varsity 4 X 100 meter relay and I was pulled up to Jr. Varsity in football playing safety. My sophomore year I was third in State in the Texas Relays in the 100 meters and was moved to varsity. My senior year we won state in 11 5A football, only to have it taken away from a ineligible player and that's when I went all the way bad.

I got into the drug game real hard. The movie Colors had just came out and Crack had just hit the seen. My Uncle had put me on to the game and showed me how to cook and weigh your work. I started off at first in the trap not even knowing at the time it was a death box. I saved up my money to get my own dope instead of letting my uncle front me some work. You know they say keep your enemies closer than your friends. By the time I was eighteen I had my own apartment and a 318i BMW. I had been in the game now for a little over two years and that's when I got shot in the leg for the first time. Only to
