After reviewing my assessment of my reading skills in the Discovery Wheel, my evaluation is correct. When reading, I underline and highlight important information and I also take effective notes. The in-class exercise about reading is a great exercise because I learned how to summarize the reading assignment and how to get the main idea by viewing the topic sentences. By reading the "reading" chapter in the textbook, I have new insights about the way I read and I will also become a more effective reader by following the many techniques of becoming a better reader. An example of a time where I had a problem with reading is with one of my current assignments from my business concepts class. The assignment is to read "The Parable Of The Sadhu" and to answer the questions along with it. The reading is very boring and also uses words that I haven't seen or used before. To understand the reading better, I have reviewed the reading a second and a third time to fully understand what is actually taking place and the meaning of the story. Asking questions and discussing the parable with the members of my group also helped me to understand the reading better.
I enjoyed this reading chapter in the textbook and even though I have already used some of the techniques mentioned, I intend to review and use more techniques of reading and to build continued success in my courses and when having to read articles at the workplace.
