Red Badge of Courage
Red Badge of Courage, starring Audie Murphy, is a movie about a young man in the civil war. He joined the army to prove to the world that he was a man. The movie takes place at a base camp where a division waits for orders.
The movie starts out with the young soldier, played by Adie Murphy, questions whether he really is brave enough for war. As he and everybody else in the camp become anxious for battle, he becomes paranoid that he will run in the face of battle. He asks others if they would run too, and most of them say no but some say they would if everybody else was.
Pretty soon all the men start to get used to the fact that they haven't received orders and start to settle in and get comfortable in their base. As soon as they do this is when they receive orders. They would be leaving in the morning. The young soldier really starts getting paranoid as they march towards the battlefield.
As the troops get nearer they start to hear the sounds of the cannons in the distance. The fear starts rising in all of the soldiers. They soon pass a fallen soldier laying face down in the dirt. As they step over him the fear is greatly intensified.
They are soon ordered to dig in inside of a trench on the frontline. They fix bayonets and wait for the rebels to charge. The bugle sounds from the confederate side and the rebels begin charging.
Hearing the rebel yell many of the union soldiers become terrified. The shooting starts and the rebels start dropping. It looks good for the union as the rebels retreat. But then the rebels turn around and charge again. This scares the young soldier and he takes off running.
He runs for a while until he comes upon a whole line of wounded soldiers marching off the front. He begins talking to one of them that he knew. The guy freaks out and takes off running into a field. The young soldier runs after him till the wounded soldier falls on the ground and dies.
The young soldier feels guilty that he ran from battle and couldn't help his friends. He wanders off into the forest until he sees many other soldiers running down a hill. He tries to stop one of them to ask what's going on but the soldier hits him in the back of the head with the butt of his rifle.
He eventually wanders back to base where he makes up a heroic story of how he was separated from the group and fought with another regiment on a different front till he was shot in the head. His buddies believe him and tell
