Between the months of November to April I sit at home staring out into the snow and I
think of one thing, "When will it be baseball season again?" Now I will try not to let me
team preference interfere with my reflection here on company costs, but if it shows
through I apologize in advance, and for those of you who know what a die hard Yankees
fan I am, I think you will agree I went easy on them!
Warm nights under the lights and the sounds of a baseball game are one of the most
enjoyable things that you can do in the summer. Growing up, going to a baseball game
is one thing you could always look forward to, and New Englanders are crazy about their
sports teams, especially baseball. However, one thing that they haven't kept up with as
their stadium and the number of fans it can hold. Red Sox Nation, as the fans call it, is
without a doubt one of the largest fan bases for a professional team. Capacity is an
issue that is hampering the team and not allowing additional revenue to be made.
In an article from The Boston Globe, it was revealed that ticket prices would be
increasing another 9% this season. This means that an average family of four going to
see a game would spend roughly $313 for a day at the games. This is compared to $222
at the house that Ruth built. (For those of you who don't follow sports that would be
Yankee Stadium!) It is also hard to imagine that season ticket prices are going up to
$13,700 for two seats. The management is passing the lack of revenue and the need to
keep up with the Yankees ball club directly to the fans.
In my opinion the management truly needs to consider the future of Fenway ballpark.
There is history here, and I understand and appreciate that. However, if there isn't
something done, the lack of seats and infrastructure will eventually drive ticket prices
