Assignment 1
Background information about the necessity for a childcare centre
What we are going to research is the necessity for a childcare center in a city of 15,000 inhabitants. We need to find out how many of these inhabitants expectant mothers and families are with one or more children between the ages of 6 weeks and 4 years and how this affects the need for a child-care center. When considering the need of a child-care center we also look at the times that these parents are working so we can determine the best opening times for a child-care center. Furthermore we need to determine how many children we need in order to make sure the centre will be financially healthy.
1. Research aim
How many families with children between 6 weeks and 4 years are in need of a child-care centre?
2. Research Questions
* How many parents with children up to 4 years and expecting parents live in B-dorp?
* How many are in need of a child-care center?
* Is the proposed price per child reasonable and attainable?
3. Which sampling frames are available?
Based on information available from the Central bureau of Statistics we apply the demographic percentages to the population size of B-dorp. What we know this far is that B-drop is an average town with 15000 civilians. What we want to know is how many children between the ages of 0 to 4 live in B-dorp to find this out we first needed to know the percentage of children living at home. Then from that we needed the percentage of children in 0 to 4 age category. A detailed calculation of this is giving below explaining calculated data in details. All the numbers are acquired from CBS homepage.
4,620,345/16300000(number of children living at home/total population)=28% of the total population that consists of children still living at home with their parents.
So applying this to B-dorp means that 15000x28%= 4200 children in B-dorp living at home with their parents.
Percentage of children in the age category 0-4 956,000/4,620,345(number of children under the age of 4 according to CBS/total number of children living at home) =20.69% Of all children living at home is under the age of 4.
So applying this to B-dorp means that of the 4200 childeren 20.69% is under the age of 4. 4200x20.69%= 869 children under the age of 4 in B-dorp.
According to CBS numbers 61% of parents with children between the age of 1 to 3 require day-care centre services. 869x61%=530 children is a estimate number of target group in B-dorp. Of course we cannot be sure but according to the case B-dorp is a average village so using average Holland numbers is a way since it's a fictional village we cannot compare it with any other villages.

4. Which sampling strategy is suitable?
We combine base the sampling method from a marketeer's perspective. This method is called probability sampling. Stratified Random Sampling, also sometimes called proportional or quota random sampling, involves dividing your population into homogeneous subgroups and then taking a simple random sample in each subgroup. What this means is we made calculations that we could apply to B-dorp based on the different segments of the population from the information available from the Central Bureau of Statistics.
To reach our target we are going to use the fallowing media:
* Posters
* Consultation bureau newsletter
* Local newspaper
* Elementary schools
* Invitation for general public
And we will have a weekly gathering for 4 weeks in a gathering hall explaining our idea's and ask for input from the parents. This will build up trust and let us bond socially with the parents.
