b) Media Reports imply that marijuana smokers don't do as well non-smokers in college and in life. Without doing anything illegal or unethical how might you go about getting some data on this issue? Design a specific study with your steps specified? Why did you choose this particular method?

I will use questionnaires to gather information from students in campus who had smoked. The survey will be handled under confidentiality.

3. Design of study

- Definition of Problem: GPA of marijuana smokers is lower than that of non smokers.

- Identifying Variables:

Periods for smoking marijuana (Variable X) to GPA (Variable Y)

- Data Collection:

Questions are following as?

- Have you smoked marijuana?

- If not, what was your average GPA?

- If so, how long have you smoked?

- What was your GPA when you started smoking marijuana?

- GPA after two semesters?

- GPA after 2 years?

Fig 1 is my prediction about data collections.

If the result of data analysis is same or similar as my prediction, I can say that

there is strong correlation between smoking marijuana and GPA.

I conclude that smoking marijuana gives negative effect to people.

Why did you choose this particular method?

We already acknowledge that smoking marijuana is illegal and unethical activity. We can not use natural observation research and experimental research. We can not ask students whether they smoke marijuana or not.

a) How would your life change if you had a stroke affecting your left hemisphere? Your Right? Be very specific in your answer. Which would be more tragic for you and why?

1. Right hemisphere brain damage

- Short attention span: Slightly longer than a couple of minutes at a time

- Difficulty in recalling acquired information, such as street names or important dates

- Inability to problem-solving

- Organization problems include being able to correctly sequence events when

telling a story

3. Which would be more tragic for you and why?

Left hemisphere is related to handedness, motor control and language.

Right hemisphere involves perception and attention.

I think that both hemispheres are important but I have to choose one of them.

I will choose left hemisphere because language function and feeling control is the most important to me. If I can not control my feeling and language, I would lose

relationships of my friends and family.

a) In a courtroom eye witness testimony is often an important component in convicting a defendant. How might the notion of "perceptual set?lead to errors in witness testimony?

Answer:

In case of eyewitness, there are two kinds of problems. The first problem is event memory and the second problem is identification memory. Both are strongly affected by questions and procedures, which elevate pressure on eyewitnesses to remember and identify.

Eyewitness simply answers what are expected of them, cooperating with suggestive police

investigations and lineup.

Other errors are resulted from prejudice, which may mainly occur in cross-racial identification cases.

Chapter 4 ?choose to argue either for or against the legalization of marijuana.

Marijuana is the most used of all hallucinogens. It is associated with apathy, lower grades, smaller brain volume, lower sperm count, and a lot of other bad stuff and yet NIDA has also found that it might be promising as a treatment for certain medical conditions.

b) Make a compelling argument for the opposite position, that is, argue that marijuana should remain illegal even in cases of compassionate use.
