Project Goal
Constructing a network design to provide secured internet connection and meet the client’s need for internet functionality and performance around the campus area. The network should be able to provide secure Internet access to the client besides providing administrative authorization for future network configuration.
Project Scope
The proposed network is designed to serve the use of Internet for the campus area in UMP. The focus area consists of 5 buildings which are Block X, Block Y, Block Z, Block FSKKP and the PTMK center. The PTMK center will act as the core center that links all the network together. It will also be the center to administer the configuration of the network and control the usage of Internet around the campus. The scope of this project includes all design, development, maintenance of the client network site. To achieve a successful project, the project criteria must be followed:
-Usage of Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) cable in the buildings
-Usage of Fiber Optic cable for building to building network
-Each building must have secure access to the Internet
-Cabling must be done underground and the quantity and installation techniques for distribution of the cable run must comply with the system manufacturer’s specification
-Having DMZ and Firewall as security to prevent unauthorized users
-Ability to handle growing network when there is added resources
-Testing must be done and comply with the client’s specifications and standards
Design Requirement
Criteria | Explaination |
Scalability | The network design should be able to expand in the near future for more PC to have access to Internet |
Availability | There must be secure Internet access during the conduct of lectures and labs |
Security | Firewall is used to restrict unauthorized users from outside. And every media and information transfer through Internet is controlled by the PTMK |
Adaptability | The network design must be able to adapt to new technologies and changes such as new protocols and other possibility upgrades from devices. |
Usability | Connecting to the Internet should be easy for the students and lecturers |
Manageability | Network maintenance must be done regularly to ensure secure access to Internet |
Number of user and priority level | Internet users are expected to be around one thousand hence administrator staffs will have the highest priority in managing the network configurations. |
Transmission Speed Requirement | Remotely executed applications, file transfers should operate quickly as process are executed within an end station. An average throughput of 20 mbps per user within each LAN and 10 mbps per user between LAN will be enough to support the needed performance in most cases. |
Number of user and priority level | Internet users are expected to be around one thousand hence administrator staffs will have the highest priority in managing the network configurations. |
