Rinaldi is currently in a tough situation in her job. She is at the mercy of a boss who seems to be displeased by her and she is forced to work with a co-worker who she cannot get along with. Rinaldi’s trouble began when she started her job at Potomac Waters. Initially, before starting work she was greeted with a lot of kindness and encouragement. In effect, the company itself marketed their job offerings well and Rinaldi was sold on the promise of great marketing training, comprehensive teaching and leadership. However, Rinaldi began to get into a mess when she started working under Follet and with Vaughan. From the beginning, it was obvious that Follet and Vaughan were part of an in-group which was not accepting of Rinaldi. Rinaldi initially tried to work hard, offer suggestions and ask questions in order to impress Follet and make herself useful. However, she was repeatedly shut down by Follet and chastised by Jamie. Furthermore, she received conflicting jobs and advice from even higher management when she helped Deutch and was rebuked by Bautista. Eventually, Rinaldi openly fought with Vaughan, disliked Follet, and became quiet and reserved during her meetings.
Rinaldi did what most would have done in her position. She initially took a very patient stance and hoped for the best but was eventually all out of patience with her co-worker and immediate boss. The only different thing she may have done was taken her suspicions of office romance and favoritism to HR or Douglas Berman. The minute Vaughan began ordering her around to do menial tasks, with no support from Follet, Rinaldi should have informed a higher ranking boss such as Berman. Furthermore she should have complained to Bautista when he asked her what was wrong. With a more open communication form, Rinaldi may have been able to get out of the mess.
