1 Introduction
With the advent of the 21st century, Virtual Organizations such as Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. are becoming more common as the wave of technology spreads out over the World Wide Web. Riordan Manufacturing, Inc., formerly Riordan Plastics, Inc., was founded in 1991 by Dr. Riordan, a professor of chemistry, in Albany, GA. Initially, the company’s main focus was on research and the licensing of its existing patents until Dr. Riordan received a venture capital which he used to purchase a fan manufacturing plant in Pontiac, MI. In the same year, the company’s name changed to what is known today as Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. A couple of years later, in 1993, the company expanded its horizons with a new facility for the production of plastic beverage containers which is currently located in Albany, GA. In 2000, Dr. Riordan expanded his operations to China including the entire fan manufacturing operations which was originally located in Pontiac, MI. This paper/narrative will address Riordan Manufacturing’s service request for a more sophisticated, state-of-the art, information systems technology within its Human Resources department which will encompass all plant locations.
1.1 Description of Request
On November 7, 2004, I was contacted by Hugh McCauley, COO. He wanted to meet with me to analyze and discuss the possibility of bringing the existing variety of tools in use today into a single integrated application within the organization’s HR system encompassing all locations.
2 Scope of Services
2.1 Background Information
Riordan Manufacturing would like to take advantage of a more sophisticated, state-of-the art, information systems technology within its Human Resource department.
2.2 Scope of Work
The scope of my proposed system is to upgrade Riordan’s HR information system technology. This new information system will improve employee productivity significantly by simplifying its HR information systems. In addition, I will create a detailed project plan that would provide a list of all tasks, resources, schedule, and budget required to complete the project. The project is estimated to be completed in approximately six months, so it can be utilized in the second quarter of the next year.
3 System Feasibility
3.1 Tasks
The project’s tasks and task’s names will be as follows:
i. Scope
a. The project’s scope will be determined and defined within approximately three days by the management and testing team.
ii. Analysis/Software Requirements
a. The analysis/software requirements will encompass: conducting need analysis, developing preliminary budget, reviewing software specifications and developing delivery timeline among other tasks which are estimated to be completed within 14 days by the governance committee.
