One very important department in running any hotel is the Budget and Forecasting Department. When contacting the Ritz-Carlton I was able to speak to Robbie Woods who works as the Executive Administrative Assistant Engineer for this particular department. Their mission statement is stated like this:
The Ritz-Carlton, Phoenix Engineering Department is a team of professional “Ladies and Gentlemen” with the shared vision of anticipating and exceeding the needs and wished of our fellow employees and guests.
Our goal is to improve, beautify, conserve, and protect the assets of The Ritz-Carlton, Phoenix by developing and implementing effective processes to attain 100% completion of preventative maintenance and C.A.R.E.
Our Pledge as a team of service professionals is to provide uncompromising levels of cleanliness, proactive leadership, teamwork, pride, lateral service, training, development, and job certification.
Overall, this department fits into the big picture of the hotel as the behind the scenes workers. If there are any problems with the rooms or hotel in general, they go in a repair and fix all that is possible. Do not be confused and misplace them with the title of janitorial staff because that doesn’t even begin to describe all of their hard work.
When starting out in this department, like all others, you must start out on a lower level. To begin, you start out as a CARE team member. Your job is to Clean And Repair Everything in the rooms. After you are there for a while you may want to go back to school and get your HVAC certification and be an Engineer Level 3. Later on if you still want to progress in your job you may go onto be Chief Engineer Assistant and then eventually the Chief Engineer. This job does have its good and bad realities. A few different aspects of the job are that its hands on, you work behind the scenes a lot of the time, and everything you do affects someone else’s job.
Chain of Command is extremely important to any large corporation. In order to for a company to run smoothly without losing track of things going on, you must break each department down into smaller departments. When a worker has a problem or idea that needs to be heard there is a particular way to go about getting things done. In this particular department there are five different people you must go through. For starters when you have something that needs to be brought to administrative attention you go to your immediate Supervisor. After talking with them, you still feel unsatisfied you will go to the Department Head. You will continue this process going next through the Division Head, then to Human Resources, until finally you get to the General Manager. By then there is usually some kind of middle ground met. In order to keep moving up, you must follow these exact steps.
The Budget and Forecasting Department works closely with every department in the Hotel. Usually within the hotel every single department has some kind of connection with the other departments. Everything that is done in a hotel, whether it be cleaning a room or fixing a sink affects the other departments. The Budgeting and Forecasting Department works most closely with the Rooms Divisions. If something is wrong with a room, the manager of that department lets a worker know what needs to be to done to make the room presentable. The department that they work with the least is the
Human Resources Department.
The highest manager in this particular department is the Director of Management which is Marc Lonn. He works as an ambassador for his department with the other departments. If anything is needed within his own department, it is his job
