PROBLEM STATEMENT:

What should Robin Hood do to improve the situation?

CASE FACTS AND ANLYSIS:

Robin Hood's revolt against sheriff started as a personal crusade and then turned to conflict with Sheriff and his administration. He alone could do a little hence started to make group of people with grievance and deep sense of justice. Their motto were " Rob the rich and give to the poor". Later on, considering number could increase the strength of group, he started welcoming everyone who was willing to join him, asking few questions.

It could be dangerous as he trusted everyone who willing to join him. For example, the person he recruited could be spy of Sheriff who could leak the position and plan of the band.

ORGANISATION CHART (Centralized):

POLICY: Confiscation of goods

Internal organizational problem Concerns:

1. With the influx of many people, the bend grew larger and hence their encampment/shelter problem arose.

2. With larger number of Merrymen, it was hard to maintain vigilance on everyone and hence the enforcement of discipline.

3. Due to large force, Robin himself didn't know half of the men he ran.

4. Band also exceeded the food capacity of the forest as the game was becoming scarce and supplies had to obtain from outlying villages.

5. Cost of buying food was beginning to drain the financial reserve.

6. Revenues were in decline as travelers (most to lose) were avoiding forest (it was costly to them but was better alternative to lose everything).

Considering this Robin thought that the time has come to change the policy to the fixed transit tax, which was questioned by his lieutenants. They argued that farmers and the town people were their most important allies and if they tax them, how could they hope for their help to fight against sheriff.

External problem concerns:

Another problem concern was Sheriff who was growing strong with money and men with him. He started probing band for their weaknesses. Again he has political connection. He had powerful friend in the court, Prince John who was well regarded by regents.

Paul john was vicious and volatile. He was unpopular among the people. Further, the barons were disputing against his claim to throne and most of them had set out to collect the ransom that would release King Richard from his jail in Australia. And Robin was invited in this conspiracy.

AREA OF CONSIDERATION:

1. Discipline: As the number of people in the band were growing, it was hard to keep vigilance every time on everyone. This was resulting in lack of discipline among the Merrymen. Hence, between the raids men milled about, talking and playing games. If it continues, they could miss travelers and consequently revenues. So, the enforcement of the discipline was very critical.

2. Shelter/ Accommodation: As band was growing, providing shelter to all Merrymen were critical issued to be addressed

3. Training: As everyone was welcomed in the band, it was very difficult to train everyone.

4. Trust: As Robin was welcoming and trusting everyone willing to work with him, considering that number would strengthen their band, some of them could be spy of Sheriff who could leak the secrets of Band.

5. Strength: As the sheriff was growing powerful with money and men, it was very crucial on Robin's part to strengthen his band and for that recruitment of new people was necessary.

6. Food capacity: With the increase in the number of Merrymen in band and scarce forest game, band was exceeding the food capacity.

7. Decrease in the finance reserve: Forest with less food capacity left them to buy from nearby villages, which resulted in decrease in financial reserve.

8. Farmer and town People Support: If Robin go with the fixed transit tax policy, then it could be possible that farmers and other town people would not support him to fight against Sheriff. But if continues his policy of confiscation, then most of the travelers could avoid the forest path, resulting in decrease in revenue.

9. Structure of organization: It was centralized organizational structure but because of that Robin found difficulty to trace every new Merrymen recruited.

10. Fear of attack from Sheriff: As Sheriff is growing powerful; he could assault Robin at any time.

11. Keep all the
