The Course Of Fate

Fate is a concept that will ever be obscure to us, even through our best intentions to discover its secrets and its ancient workings. It can be the most dangerous foe or the best ally, an unfathomable force that whisks itself through life. Try as we might, the concept of fate will always be out of our grasps. Some may not believe in fate, others do, but whether it exists or not, it still has a role in our lives; always making us question our existence on earth. No one can comprehend what fate has in store and neither did Romeo and Juliet. Fate is a powerful force, whether predestined or persuasions of your actions that will shape your lives as it did with Romeo and Juliet.

Since the beginning of our lives, or the beginning of time itself, fate has already intervened and sealed all the actions from there hence. Romeo and Juliet suffered the consequences of this. They were born into two rival families in Verona, and as a result, death was foreseen in their future before birth. People often say that our lives are our own choices, and that fate has nothing to do with it. If that is true, we should be able to choose our families, but we cannot. Romeo and Juliet had no choice in which family that bore them, but as a sick twist of fate, they happened to be born into the two feuding ones.

As fate shows its presence before birth and time, it does so again during life, persuading your every action and ultimately leading to your future. As Romeo heads to Capulet's party, he is reminded of his dark premonition that will ensure death, as Romeo says, " . . . Some consequence yet hanging in the stars Shall bitterly begin this fearful date With this night's revels, and expire the term Of a despised life closed in my breast By some vile forfeit of untimely death." (I.III. 113-118), yet Romeo went anyway. Fate has stricken once again to control their actions in life even through their best intentions, even through deathly warnings. Another sign of fate that people may want to discredit, saying that this action was because of Romeo's irrational personality. But where does our personality develop? Our personality is most likely based on our environment when we grow up as a child. But as a child, we cannot choose that place and our personality develops as a course of fate.

Fate has another surprise in store for everyone, his or her behavior and sudden spurs of irrationality that changes his or her behavior. Juliet was quite mature for her age, but as she met Romeo, her behavior changes drastically.
