This report is on a “Great Leader of the World”. I have chosen to report on Ronald Reagan. Ronald Wilson Reagan was born on February 6, 1911 in Tampico, Illinois. Later in his life, the family moved to Dixon, Illinois, a neighboring town to Tampico. He attended Dixon High School, where he began to like acting and storytelling. His first job was as a lifeguard at Lowell park, where he had saved 77 lives. After he graduated from high school, he attended Eureka College. While he attended college he studied economics and sociology, he played on the college football team and he also acted in school plays. Upon his graduation he became a radio sports caster. After he graduated, he had a screen test in 1937 and then he won a contract in Hollywood. After the screen test for the next two decades he appeared in 53 films in Hollywood.
Some characteristics that made President Ronald Reagan a great leader were that he believed in “Peace through strength”, and he did not condone or accept “excuses”. Another thing that President Reagan was known for during his term was the Cold War. One of Reagan’s more controversial proposals was the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI). It was a project that used ground and space based systems that would protect the United States from an attack by nuclear ballistic missiles. In doing this, Reagan made the Soviet Union nervous. The leader of the Soviet Union, Yuri Andropov, was concerned that it “could put the whole world at jeopardy.” In a famous speech on June 8, 1982, Reagan stated that the Soviet Union is an “evil empire that would be consigned to the ash heap of history.” Also, he predicted on March 3, 1983 that communism would collapse. Reagan believed that if he could persuade the Soviets to allow for more democracy and free speech, this would lead to reform and the end of Communism. Speaking at the Berlin Wall, on June 12, 1987, Reagan challenged Gorbachev to go further with this speech, “General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if
