Rupaul’s Drag Race Across All Platforms
Rupaul’s drag race is a reality TV show that hosts a drag queen competition in California, America. Drag queens race to earn the title of America’s next drag super star. The show has already crowned eleven drag queens since it has started in 2008. In the beginning, the show was running on a low budget. Now because of its likability around the world the show became transmedia. ‘UNTUCKED’ a TV show based on the conflama that goes on behind the scenes. ‘Rupaul’s DRAG RACE ALL STARS’ a similar competition shows that hosts famous queens from past seasons, giving them a second chance in winning the title. Dragcon, a convention event, where 40,000 fans get to meet their idols and show their admiration while dressing in drag. Queens (characters) have their own stalls to sell merchandise and posters while judges from the show facilitate discussions on LGBT issues and other entertaining events.

The main entities are: Rupaul the legendary American drag queen, the ten contestants in each season and famous pop-culture judges. Including Michelle visage, Carson Kressley, and Ross Mathews. The setting of the show takes place in a studio, with a runway faced by the judges. Each week there is a challenge (event) and the two bottom queens have to stay or sashay away (action). On the last episode Rupaul picks one of the top three queens to be crowned the winner. The show is always backed by Rupaul’s pop songs, special sound effects, and judge’s funny voiceovers. These effects create a witty and more ‘flamboyant’ viewing experience.
Instagram as a media platform allows images and short videos that cause instant spoilers and engage story observers in seconds. Instagram’s specifity permits contestants (characters) from the show to stream to followers and engage with them in real time through live chat. This reinforces truths and misconceptions from the actual show that could have been miscommunicated amid editing.
