Question 1 (Chapter 2)
- Solution No 5 (Page -66)
Scrap Rate 10%
With scrap rate produced 72 pieces
Without scrap rate produced 72÷(1-.10) = 80 pieces
The amount of potential increase in production: (80-72)÷72×100 = 11.1%
Solution No 6 (Page-66)
Previously the worker production was 160 units working for 40 hours. And now the production is 138 units working 36 hours.
Previous Labor Productivity: 138/36= 3.83 units/hour
New Labor Productivity: 160/40= 4 units/hour
Productivity Increases: [(4-3.83)/3.83]x100 = 4.44%
So from the above calculation of labor productivity we see that the worker productivity increases from the previous week. The worker put more effort to produce more in this week.
Solution No 8 (Page-66)
Currently Production = 400÷ (40×2) = 5
Company A’s software production: 400÷(30×2)+3.6 = 6.29
Company B’s software production: 400÷(28×2)+3.5 = 6.72
- Answer to the Case-
Your Garden Gloves
- Productivity:
Crew Size | Average Productivity Per Crew | Labor Productivity |
2 | 4234 | 2117 square feet per day |
3 | 5352 | 1784 square feet per day |
4 | 7860 | 1965 square feet per day |
The crew size of 2 people has the highest productivity. And the crew size of 3 people has the lowest productivity. The reason of this may be the work effort of the labors. May be the crew of two people is very efficient and attentive in their work and therefore they are able to cover more space than an individual of the crew size of 4 people. Although the crew compiling of 3 people is more than two their productivity is less than the crew of 2 two people because they are may not be that efficient and not expert like the two people of the previous crew.
- The owner decided to send the crew of 4 workers to redesign the clients garden although we have seen that the crew size of 2 workers have the better productivity. The owner may think that 4 workers can deliver less productivity but they can mange to work faster. Because the client said that she wanted to have a garden party in the coming weekend and started to panic. So the owner wanted to finish the task as fast as possible so she sent a crew of 4 people to complete the task.
- There is one qualitative approach and another quantitative approach. In the previous answer we have noticed that the owner sent a crew of 4 members to complete a task although the productivity of the crew consisting members of 2 is better. Because the owner must have think that the quality of the members he sent is better and they complete the task within the given time. And the owner thinks that it is a large job and assigned 4 members to complete the task. This may be the qualitative issue above the quantitative numbers of productivity.
Question 2 (Chapter 3) Answer: a
a. Solution 22 (Page-127)
[pic 2]
MSE For Forecast 1: 94÷9 = 10.4
MSE For Forecast 2: 382÷9 = 42.4
MAD For Forecast 1: 28÷10 = 2.8
MAD For Forecast 2: 36÷10 = 3.6
The Forecast 2 seems to be superior because it may assumed in the light of experience and judgemental and may not be calculated properly by any forecasting method. The summation of the forecast 2 is superior than the summation of the actual sales. The number 4th months forecast has been absolutely wrong and its actual sales increased by 18 units and also the 5th months also been wrong to some extent by 6 units. So for this big change the summation of the forecast 2 error is bigger in this aspect.
