Saint Margaret Mary

Saint Margaret Mary and the Promises of the Sacred Heart of Jesus by Mary Fabyan Windeatt tells the true story of Sister Margaret Mary. Margaret Mary Alacoque grew up in seventeenth century France on a farm. When she was young, she fell ill and spent four years of her life in sickness. At the age of 13, Margaret Mary promised Our Lady that if she were healed, she would become a nun. Finally, when she was twenty-three years old, she entered the Order of the Visitation of Mary. Saint Margaret Mary showed obedience, patience, and faith throughout her life as a Visitation sister.

Saint Margaret Mary was a very obedient girl. Many times in her life, she has been told by the superior at the monastery that she wasn’t allowed to do the things that God told her to do in her visions. She would accept every job or task given to her without complaining or questioning. When Margaret Mary first entered the Order of the Visitation of Mary, the other sisters thought she was a mental case because of her visions. She accepted that the sisters ridiculing her was her cross to carry and didn’t question God.

Margaret Mary is a good example of patience. She devoted her life to God and was patient with the other sisters and other people that didn’t believe in her visions. Saint Margaret Mary knew that over time, people would learn to practice the devotion to His Sacred Heart. She didn’t worry about the way people treated her because she knew that there Our Lord has made promises to the people who practiced the devotion to His Sacred Heart. Sister Margaret Mary never lost her temper with the other sisters and was always showing patience in her forgiveness.

Sister Margaret Mary also led a life of faith. She grew up having a difficult childhood but in times of trouble, she put her life in God’s hands. When she was sick, she knew that whatever happened was God’s will. Even at the monastery, she listened to Our Lord through her visions and obeyed the things He told her to do. Whenever Saint Margaret Mary came across a problem, she asked God to help her if it was His will. Throughout her life, she never lost faith in Our Lord.

All throughout Saint Margaret Mary’s life, she lived by obedience, patience, and faith. She never disobeyed her superior at the monastery even if she was trying to do what God had told her. Margaret Mary was also very patient in teaching other people and the other sisters about the Sacred Heart. She never gave up on God even in troublesome times. Margaret Mary Alacoque was a great example of living our lives for Our Lord.
