Road Load Data Acquisition, unattended Usage Profiles, Noise & Vibration and Durability testing are just a few ways to capture data on how vehicles perform in the environments for which they were designed. Advances in remote control, instantaneous remote data access, on the fly / real time analysis and high channel count testing have expanded the possibilities for retrieving large volumes of meaningful performance and environmental data in a more timely and efficient manner than ever before.
One emerging market trend is to piggy-back tests. Manufacturers are building fewer mules and prototypes and therefore need to use them more effectively to avoid the test article being worn out as it goes from department to department. A vehicle may be instrumented for a 128 channel Road Load test to look at chassis components and simultaneously have an 8 or 16 channel Noise and Vibration test to look at seat track noise or dash board vibration. Thus a product like the DAQ is attractive for this method of testing.
Currently the DAQ has some significant short comings to adequately address this market or even be given consideration in many cases. The architecture of the DAQ's modular design can enable the upgrading of various components of the system to better address specific markets. The system and firmware capability can be upgraded to offer intelligent triggering and software configurable filtering options. The addition of new signal conditioning modules is an important contribution, though only one component of what will make the system attractive to our customers.
