In regards to AT&T/SBC's issues with outsourcing, this researcher has first hand knowledge of it's pitfalls. She is a current employee and member of it's union, Communication Workers of America.

Did they outsource? Yes, they did and they are planning on continuing those contracts. Did they do so to the detriment of some of their long standing employees? That is a definite and resounding "YES" as well. Was there a backlash from the union, Communication Workers of America and its members? This researcher can say with absolute confidence that there enormously was.

The corporation did so, as did several other giant corporations in the United States, for the obvious reasons, to cut costs and generate a higher stock price. Why pay $1 when you can get the same thing for $.01? However, is it truly the same thing?

Contract negotiations in 2005 came to a stand still for the then SBC, now AT&T, due to two major issues. One of them being outsourcing. The union member's response to that was to take a concerted work effort for four days. Basically, a walkout without the worry of being locked out. Such action was implemented due to management and union leaders coming to a stand still in the negotiation process.

It was no secret that the company did lose monies during the four day period. However, they have made up for that time frame more than two fold since then. But the action proved successful. The response from the corporation to the
