In order to prevent burnout and improve efficiency and profitability, the leaders of SC Johnson has devised a reward system where the employees can take a paid sabbatical during their employment with the company. It has been reported in the Lancaster New Era, that 70 of a possible 3,000 have taken advantage of the program. The program is geared towards the employees that have been working at the company for more than 5 years. On the 5th anniversary, the employee is qualified to take eight weeks off with full benefits and 25% of their salary. It gets better for the employees 10 years and more, the employee who worked for the company for at least 10 can take a 12-week sabbatical with pay and benefit and are eligible for another 12 weeks every five years thereafter.

SC Johnson takes pride in the fact that it is a family-owned and -operated business which is dedicated to the every aspect of family life. They consider their workers as part of their extended family and are committed to making the sure that the employee and their families have a balanced life. It has been recognized by working Mothers magazines as one of America's best companies to work. Under the federal Family and Medical Leave Act, employees who has been on the job for at least 12 months and worked at least 1,250 hours are eligible for 12 weeks of unpaid maternity leave with their job guaranteed upon their return. SC Johnson has taken it a step further, employees can take up to 28 weeks off and some of it can be paid. It all depends on the tenure with the company (Pabst and Dresang, 2005). At the end of the maternity leave, working mothers can either work on a part time (up to six months) to help them adjust to the new life or they can share their responsibilities with a full-time employee. Expectant Mothers are not the only one to reap the perks and benefits of the job, the father are provided with pagers as a result they are accessible 24/7 (Smyth, 2004).
