Science Fair Research Paper

The problem I chose to investigate is “How ones the type of Coke affect the height of the Mentos explosion?”

I chose this project because, I would like to test this very popular experiment. This is a very popular experiment o there’s a lot of information about it. I’m very familiar with this topic so I think it’s a good experiment for me.

The independent variable in this experiment is the type of Coke. Diet Coke should theoretically causes higher explosion due to the high levels of carbonation. Diet Coke ingredients include carbonated water, caramel color, asportome, phosphonic acid, potassium, natural flavors, and citric acid. Regular coke will cause a smaller explosion because it has a lower amount of carbonation. Regular coke ingredients include, caffeine citrate, citric acid, vanilla extract, lime juice, and sugar.

The dependent variable in this experiment is the height of the explosion. The cause of the explosion is due to the reaction between the mentos and coke. When the coke is attracted to the mentos a process called nucleation begins. There are many microscopic nooks and crannies on the surface of the mentos that a incredible amount of bubbles will form around the mentos while in the soda.

Both independent and dependent variables are connected through a cause and effect relationship. In this experiment, the type of Coke will vary how big the explosion is, due different ingredients. According to my research I found out that the type of Coke used can make a different effect on how big the explosion is. The Diet Coke should have a bigger effect due to the ingredients. Some examples of what might happen are you may be unsuccessful with a few trials. Or original Coke my surprisingly have a bigger effect. Or like expected diet Coke will have a bigger effect. Therefore, my hypothesis
