Rough Draft
The beginning of football began in the mid 1800s. When the daughter of Lamar Hunt ,Sharon Hunt, bounced a small red, white and blue ball over the roof and into their backyard. Then Lamar asked his daughter:
"What's that?" he said.
"A super ball. That's its real name, Daddy, super ball"
(Anderson, p3).
Surprising that later on the "Super ball" inspired the name of the NFL's championship game , The Super Bowl. But like any other American sport the roots of football were small. Starting at News Brunswick, New Jersey. Where Rutgers and Princeton played what most historians believe the first college football game. With the simple rule of: No running or throwing with the round inflated ball. As to now in modern time the game of football is played by either running or throwing the ball. If it wasn't for that famous players such as Emmit Smith , The All-Time Leading rusher for the NFL, would not of been known to do what he does best. Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts will go down in history as one of the greatest Quarterbacks to ever play the game of football. Emmit ,who is a running back, runs with the ball and Peyton ,who is a quarterback, throws the ball. Both running and throwing were against the rules when football first came about, now we see how the game has changed a little bit. From wearing baggy pants that were somewhat light-weighted with a long-sleeved colored shirt that was kind of tight to the body. Usually the only thing separating two opposing teams were not there colors, but their symbols of which were on their shirts. Absolutely no padding whatsoever. No shoulder pads, no helmets, no cleats. The football itself was big and hard. There was no cushion or grip on the balls but only made out of leather ,NOT, pigskin as it is today. Imagine running full speed at another human being and head budding them as soon as you two touched, then not only head budding them but lifting them up and taking them to the ground so that you could finally stop the running and catch your breath before the next play starts in a matter of seconds. Its tough, especially nowadays where will do have padding around our legs ,shoulders ,heads ,and even our necks and ankles. But with this added protection it brings extra weight that we have to lug around for atleast 45 minutes. Back then, they didn't have these pads and yet they just hit each other with no protection. Talk about broken bones, busted lip. Back
