Serve Safe
Mexi Rollers have had an in-depth look into the behind the scenes safety that goes on at Qdoba's. Qdoba is a specialty burrito builder that specializes in burritos, quesadillas, tacos, and more, with flavors you wont find anywhere else, made fast and fresh right in front of your eyes. With a highly sophisticated company such as Qdoba employee safety and customer safety are a must to stay away from this sue happy nation. The kitchen, serving lines and customer areas are key areas where such accidents could and will happen if safety is not in mind. Though customers don't come in direct contact with all of the hazards that employees encounter they do encounter some of the same hazards.
The kitchen at Qdoba's holds the most hazards to employees, but with the right precautions many of these hazards can be prevented. The BLS survey documents that slips, trips and falls account for 34 percent of restaurant-worker-injury causes. OSHA (Occupational Safety an Health Administration) sets regulations and guide lines that Qdoba and other companies must follow. One of the leading accidents in any business is slips, trips and falls. While slip trips and falls are one of the leading causes of accidents, there are many things you can do to prevent these accidents. OSHA gives set rules such as, "Keep all places of employment clean and orderly and in a sanitary condition. Keep floors clean and dry. Keep aisles and passageways clear and in good repair, with no obstruction across on in aisles that could create a hazard. Provide warning signs for wet floor areas. Keep exits free from obstruction." These are just a few of OSHA's set regulations to prevent such accidents of occurring while in the kitchen. By keeping a work area clean and orderly not only does the company look clean and sterile, but also employees have less of a chance of getting injured. By keeping floors clean and dry employees and customers have less chance of mold and other bacteria's from causing infections in the food and creating more of a problem. Keeping a work area clutter free by picking up after customers and employees and running electrical cords and other miscellaneous stuff in the proper direction will help avoid slips, trips and falls. One of Qdoba's ways of avoiding slips, trips and falls while in the kitchen, they place non-slip mats on the serving line and in front of all of the machines that they use for food preparation. Not only do these mats provide an area against slip, trips and falls, they also provide a less harsh work environment while these employees are on their feet. Qdoba restaurants pride them self on a clean and orderly workplace.
While slips trips and falls are among the leader in kitchen hazards at Qdoba's and other restaurants, cuts, burns and lacerations are another big concern. These items of accidents are the leading causes in kitchen and serving line accidents not only at Qdoba's but at other restaurants as well. Cuts, burns, and lacerations are a hazard that every employee at Qdoba's faces every day. On the serving line at the very first station, one is asked, "What type of burrito you would like". At this stage the employee encounters a chance at getting burned by the steaming machine that warms up the flour tortilla. There are many other stations along the serve line at Qdoba's that have potential to burn an employee. The other stations that may provide a burn may include the meat area, rice area, and the cheese area. Though the serve line has many burning hazards the preparation of cooking the food also has great dangers. The grill, fryer, stove, burners and possible even the dish washing area have a chance at giving an employee a burn. Many of these potential hazards can be avoided as well though by wearing protective gear. Cuts and lacerations at Qdoba restaurants are another hazard that a Qdoba employee faces. Qdoba restaurants employees use knives and sharp objects as well to produce food. Sharp knives and sharp objects when used incorrectly can cause pain and life long effects. Qdoba employees use knives to cut up meat, vegetables, bags, and other items. When using knives and sharp objects extra care should be used
